We're Historic

Organization History:

Founded in 2013 as a not-for-profit, the 39th Street District is dedicated to revitalizing one of Oklahoma City's most vibrant neighborhoods. In partnership with local businesses and the city, we have transformed the 39th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue corridor into a thriving hub for culture, commerce, and community.

A major milestone was the completion of a $2,000,000 streetscape development project with Oklahoma City in May 2022, featuring reverse-angle parking, enhanced landscaping, and pedestrian-friendly upgrades. This project improved accessibility and aesthetics, strengthening the district’s appeal to residents and visitors alike.

In 2024, we achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, reaffirming our commitment to long-term growth and impact. Our placemaking efforts include vibrant murals showcasing local artistry and reflecting the district’s rich history.

Located along historic Route 66, we embrace our heritage by blending nostalgic charm with modern revitalization. As Oklahoma City’s premier LGBT-centered neighborhood, the 39th Street District proudly celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and pride year-round. Through community-driven events and cultural initiatives, we continue to foster a welcoming space for all while preserving the district’s unique character.

Mission Statement:

The 39th Street District's mission is to enhance the community and economic growth within our vibrant corner of Oklahoma City. We will foster a dynamic and inclusive environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Vision Statement:
39th Street District will be known as an exceptional Route 66 destination that empowers and builds community by educating (or promoting) and preserving our unique LGBTQIA+ history

Bylaws Purpose:
